Park(ing) Day 2025 | Final Design

After refining our proposals, we finalized the design using red pipes as the "wall" separating the project from the street. These pipes are organized in an organic mountainous shape, connected by a dense cloud of floating connecting pieces made of HDPE sheets. The thin connectors stabilize the structure but seem to disappear and reappear as people walk past them. The installation has multiple seating where visitors can sit and relax in groups or on their own.

SOLAIR | Finalizing Frame Fabrication

Continuing assembly and preparing for installation. Through collaboration, the students screwed the wooden framework together. Once the framework was complete, the reflective panels were carefully attached, making sure there was a secure connection while allowing room for movement. The students assembled as many components as possible to minimize the amount of assembly on installation day.

Park(ing) Day 2025 | Team Proposals

Students from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Department of Architectural Science are participating in Park(ing) Day 2025. The site is set on Gould st, in the middle of our campus.
The Parking Day event is a three day installation. The event allows us to repurpose the spaces used by cars for people to gather. We split into three teams and focused on making human-scale spaces while reusing materials leftover from previous design builds.

Camp Winston Sensory Yurt Furnishings | Design Development

Since our last site visit to Camp Winston, the team has been working hard to incorporate the feedback we received and refine the direction of the project. With the updates coming together, we’re now preparing the final designs to present to the Camp Winston team!

Camp Winston Sensory Yurt Furnishings | Schematic Design and Site Visit

Students from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Department of Architectural Science are kicking off a design-build project with Camp Winston, focused on designing and fabricating furnishings for a sensory yurt. With the early ideas taking shape, the team visited the camp to document the installation space and present initial concepts to the Camp Winston Team, gathering feedback on what the children need most. 

Working in small teams, the students pitched several designs that aim to create a calming environment that offers unique and engaging sensory experiences for kids. The team left the site visit with valuable feedback and a fun, memorable taste of camp life.

SOLAIR | Assembling Initial 1:1 Module

The design of Solair was well refined – time for construction. A section of the wooden frame was produced at scale to test structural integrity. With the confirmation of the structure, the CNC machine was used to precisely produce each component of the wooden frame and each reflective panel of the project. Through the early stages of construction, the project’s structure began to emerge.

SOLAIR | Physical Prototyping with Model Making

Bringing the vision to life – one piece at a time. With the design process complete the students assembled a small-scale model which served as a crucial step to understanding the design details. As each piece was carefully assembled, the design became reality, offering a tangible preview of the vision ahead.
