Mock Up Assembly

The adage "Think twice, cut once" is something the [R]ed[U]x Lab team completely embraces. Throughout the group's formation, the 1:1 mock-ups are often installed in the atria of the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University. This allows the team to identify any missing pieces, gaps in the production process, as well as understand the design at a full scale.

The team led by second and third years had a great deal of support from enthusiastic and invaluable student volunteers including [R]ed[U]x Lab veterans and energetic first year students.

Assembly on the Stomata Membrane

Undoubtedly a Herculean effort - this membrane design and assembly would be near impossible without the support and coordination of our volunteer design assembly team.

The Long Night of Building

Despite a series of setbacks on material, coordination, and manpower, the [R]ed[U]x Lab team managed to get a solid night of work once the pieces were cut. Thanks to the first and second years who were indispensable in making the construction process go so well... and for reliving a typical architectural late night!

The Preparations the Night Before

Here are a few better images of the [R]ed[U]x Lab team as the deadline for Grow Op 2014 approached. Thanks again to the energy and enthusiasm from the volunteers especially at this time of the academic year. Special thanks go to Lauren for taking the photos!

Here is the late shift all posing and assuming the working positions:

Naveed putting the finishing touches on the acrylic stalactite...

Ariel looking determined to make the acrylic connect properly...

Johnathan hanging on the infrastructure?

Matt precariously holding the pieces up...

Rachel and John watching Naveed...

A dramatic image showcasing the incredible number of modules made for the installation...

Rachel putting up a few units...

Apparently as the tallest person, Matt does the installation in the hard to reach areas while everyone watches...

With the pieces coming down to eye level, it looks like Gary almost posed for this...

Laura maintaining calm while the assembly continues in the background...

Hyebin admiring the work above...

Ariel finds your lack of faith [in the acrylic structure] disturbing, Lauren...

John making his the most of his "hood" cred...

The nearly complete piece... too bad visitors wouldn't be able to see the interesting shadow play of the piece on the white walls...
