Fabrication has begun for the ParkletTO
As the semester ends, the shipment of Accoya wood arrived and the Parklet team began the fabrication of the project. Starting with the cutting and sorting of the wood, the team then went on to sand down edges and arrange the pieces for the modules. With the thousands of unique pieces that need to be perfectly sized, the team will be steadily working away at this for several weeks!

Design work on the Parklet TO continues!
Where traditionally it is simply a roped off area of street where cars park, used for restaurant seating or as a public space, the Ryerson students chose to design a flexible bench-like seating that leave room for customization for future locations and uses.
Working with the Toronto authorities as well as the police force, the team has been iterating designs for a few weeks.
The team decided to create a parametrically undulating surface, modeling the process using T-Splines and Rhino.

What is most impressive about this project is just how quickly this was developed and assembled especially when you consider the majority of the team consisted of first year architectural science students coming in with no familiarity with laser cutters.
