Sine & Stomata: The Initial Ideas

Here are the two renderings that were presented by the Sine and Stomata teams to the Bata Shoe Museum and adjudication committees in order to secure this year's 2014 Nuit Blanche.

Let's just hope that the renderings are pale comparisons to what will really come to fruition! Tonight is the big night!

Sine is also underway - the team is a fine tuned group of Architectural Science students working with the Hobby Electronics Club from Engineering to make some interesting adjustments to the initial prototype presented in the Winter of this past year.

Stomata & Sine at the Bata Shoe Museum: Geektropolis Shout-Out

It is great to hear that the Ryerson University [R]ed[U]x Lab has some hype behind it even if we are not famous artists or pampered kids (who all pool in thousands of dollars for their projects that are eerily similar to past RUDAS projects and get bussed into Toronto from cities where there are no cultural events like Nuit Blanche... just saying...).

Let's hope we don't disappoint guys like Geektropolis with the various [R]ed[U]x Lab projects this year!

Nuit Blanche 2014 Hints

The [R]ed[U]x Lab Team is extremely humbled and excited to have been selected to once again display their work at the Bata Shoe Museum during the 2014 Nuit Blanche in Toronto. Two [R]ed[U]x Lab projects, Sine and Stomata, will be displaying some interesting and innovative projects that showcase the design innovation and digital fabrication acumen the Ryerson Architectural Science students have. These two groups have big shoes to fill as they continue the legacy of success in drawing attention to the Bata Shoe Museum this year.

From an interactive acoustic environment to a fragile immersive synthetic ecosystem, this year's [R]ed[U]x Lab projects look to be an exciting addition to the complement of distinguished artists in this upcoming Nuit Blanche 2014. Once again the call will go out to our team members and students in the Department of Architectural Science for help in these initiatives so keep the

Here are a few hints of the prototyping underway on the Stomata project courtesy of Tiff. These are not quite at the level of Remi-quality but these impromptu images reveal the tessellation and connection experiments the team has begun.

What the HEC helped...

Continuing the spirit of collaboration within the university, the Architectural Science students creating the prototypes for the Toronto Design Offsite festival (displayed at the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University) worked with students from the Hobby Electronic Club (HEC) in ensuring the technology could render the desired effects.  They did not disappoint. Had it not been for the great contributions from Sami and Anna, the designs would be shells of what could be possible. Thanks to their assistance, the installations for the 2014 TODO festival at the ARC Building (325 Church Street) truly demonstrate the collaborative strengths that make Ryerson University such a great place to part of.

Samples of the Prototypes for TODO at the Department of Architectural Science

With the Toronto Design Offsite Exhibition commencing next week, Ryerson University's Department of Architectural Science will also have a series of prototypes of interactive installation work ready for display to the public.  Here are a few images of some of the work developed and refined over the past month.
