Protest in the Park - Fabrication

The Protest in the Park team has begun fabricating the display structure in the DAS Wood Shop. Assembly starts with connecting CNC cut components into individual modules. These modules will join together on-site for more efficient transport and fabrication.

Protest in the Park - Design Proposal #2

Using physical models and prototypes from the previous proposal, the Protest in the Park design team updated the bench to feature more stable seating, as well as more room for artifacts and information within the wooden frame. The bench is now split into modules, each of which can be assembled individually and then connected together on-site, making for a quicker and more efficient installation. Additionally, this design allows individual components of the bench to be quickly built and replaced if needed. The updated proposal is also more suitable for a variety of uses and conditions within Allan Gardens, allowing for increased longevity within the park.

[R]ed[U]x Lab Design Explorations for the Digital Media Experience Lab

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the management of Ryerson University's Digital Media Experience Lab (Namir Ahmed and Fangmin Wang) and the Master of Digital Media program (Michael Carter), another [R]ed[U]x Lab team led by Cathy have proposed a design of some storage within a feature wall for one of the Student Learning Centre's most prominent spaces. The design concept entitled "Trichotomy". Given the popularity and steady activity of the space, the design will have to be broken into two phases to ensure the primary storage is installed followed by the accent features of the overhead display areas. The team is currently looking to refine the design and explore materials that would complement the newest addition to the Ryerson University campus.

More to come as this design unfolds!

Opticianado Installation Coming Together

This weekend the [R]ed[U]x Lab team working on the Opticianado installation, "Eyes on the Street", had a chance to assemble the main matrix on site. Within the next day the storefront will open up to a new, interactive piece that will provide a fine balance between display and spectacle.

It was a good installation over the weekend as Matt and Rachel were fortunate enough to have some assistance from other [R]ed[U]x Lab members from other projects including Fil and Jason. More to come soon enough!

Refining the Opticianado Installation

Here are some additional developmental images of the [R]ed[U]x Lab team's work on the Opticianado installation for the 2014 Toronto Design Offsite festival. The team is eager to assemble the work as a great deal of the fabrication has already been completed. As the event draws closer, the team will be posting more images of the assembly, electronic work, and site work.
