Winning entry for Winterstations 2018 announced!

After a department-wide competition, the jury of DAS professors and staff have selected the winning design to represent Ryerson at the 2018 Winterstations installation... Nest! The students' proposal is inspired by this year's theme RIOT, drawing inspiration from structures built in impromptu protests. The exterior of the station is reminiscent of being bombarded by information, reflecting the current chaotic lifestyle.

CANtinue? Canstruction 2017

It's that time of year again! [Red[U]x Lab's structure is on display at the Metro Convention Center for the annual Canstruction Competition.

This year's installation, "CANtinue?" is based on the Sony Playstation 4 controller and console. Staying true to the gaming theme, the students envisioned each can to represent a pixel to create the overall composition. Gaming consoles of all generations have been a memorable part of individuals’ lives growing up. Games bring people together and our goal was to use this installation to bring back that sense of nostalgia while raising awareness to end hunger in Toronto. The charging status of the controller is indicated by LED lighting. The goal is to reach 100% for not only energy level, but also awareness for the cause.

Using 4224 cans, some additional dry goods and costs of tape the students (and the bonus help of a professor) were able to once again showcase Ryerson students' capacity for structurally stable design and teamwork.

Fabrication has begun for the ParkletTO

As the semester ends, the shipment of Accoya wood arrived and the Parklet team began the fabrication of the project. Starting with the cutting and sorting of the wood, the team then went on to sand down edges and arrange the pieces for the modules. With the thousands of unique pieces that need to be perfectly sized, the team will be steadily working away at this for several weeks!

Bata Shoe Museum Proposals

The team behind the Bata Shoe Museum 150th Canadian Anniversary window visited the site and came up with several design options before commencing production on the current scheme.
Visiting the site with the new team of [R]ed[U]x Lab members meant not only documenting the site but also taking a look at the finer details of the past installation that would better inform the infrastructure resources for the new design.

As evidenced by the options produced the team delivered on a range of options including representations of urban centres to the nation's geological morphology. Here are several initial proposals at the outset of the project.
