Complete Opticianado Installation

This weekend was quite a busy time in the city of Toronto as it continued through its 2014 Toronto Design Offsite Festival which included the "Eyes on the Street" installation by the [R]ed[U]x Lab team out in the Junction at Opticianado.  The project was a great collaboration between not only the Architectural Science and Engineering students, but also between Ryerson University and the city as a whole.

Here are some great photos taken once again by Remi who has inadvertently become the unofficial photographer of the [R]ed[U]x Lab projects including the Night Market and Best Foot Forward.  He is a great talent and we are lucky to have his abilities and expertise available to us.

And as an aside, if any of you are open to do so, there is voting for the People's Choice Award this year... any votes would be greatly appreciated!

Opticianado Installation | Eyes on the Street in Progress

The finishing touches have been put on the Opticianado installation for the TODO 2014 festival entitled "Eyes on the Street". The project goes beyond a fabricated framework supporting eye wear; it is a synthesis of lighting, motion tracking, digital fabrication, and parametric modeling among other things. It is a great collaboration between Engineering students and their colleagues in Architectural Science.

What the HEC helped...

Continuing the spirit of collaboration within the university, the Architectural Science students creating the prototypes for the Toronto Design Offsite festival (displayed at the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University) worked with students from the Hobby Electronic Club (HEC) in ensuring the technology could render the desired effects.  They did not disappoint. Had it not been for the great contributions from Sami and Anna, the designs would be shells of what could be possible. Thanks to their assistance, the installations for the 2014 TODO festival at the ARC Building (325 Church Street) truly demonstrate the collaborative strengths that make Ryerson University such a great place to part of.

Opticianado Installation Coming Together

This weekend the [R]ed[U]x Lab team working on the Opticianado installation, "Eyes on the Street", had a chance to assemble the main matrix on site. Within the next day the storefront will open up to a new, interactive piece that will provide a fine balance between display and spectacle.

It was a good installation over the weekend as Matt and Rachel were fortunate enough to have some assistance from other [R]ed[U]x Lab members from other projects including Fil and Jason. More to come soon enough!
